Order: Biddulphiales
Family: Rhizosoleniaceae

Description: Long, cylindrical cells. Valves terminate in a proboscis. Auxospores sometimes present.

Cell Size: Diameter (apical axis) = 7-18um,
Length (pervalvar) = 1mm

Distribution: Oceanic temperate waters, sometimes coastal.

Synonym: Rhizosolenia alata.
