Description: Cylindrical cells that form curving and sometimes spiraling chains. Valves flat but with rounded edges. External process is marginal, and fits into a shallow depression in adjoining valve. Girdle bands appear as collars but hard to see. Small numerous chloroplasts.
Cell Size: Width = 6-45um, Length = 250um
Distribution: Neritic, widespread, probably cosmopolitan.
Synonym: Rhizosolenia stolterfothii.
